Grab your blender, some ice and your favorite liquid base (almond milk, coconut milk, milk and a mixture of coconut water or just purified water….you choose! My favorite is a blend of these.) and consider some great ingredients to boost your brain, your heart, your body building and muscles, your immune and digestive system, even your mood. Try to keep it protein based and low glycemic, so it doesn’t end up being like a sweetened milkshake. Don’t be afraid to go “green” and try some unique ingredients like avocado, green veggies and varied fruits and berries or even nuts. Keep it zesty and mix it up!
A Happy Mood Maker – add frozen blueberries or mango, fresh strawberries and pineapple OJ
Build Your Muscles – peanut or almond butter, frozen banana, whey protein powder, fat free yogurt
Immune and Digestion – cherries, mango, low fat yogurt, pineapple OJ
Heart Health – frozen banana, raspberries, pomegranate juice, peanut butter, frozen yogurt
Brain Booster – frozen blueberries, frozen raspberries, pineapple OJ, vanilla yogurt
Add a healthy superfood powder like Moringa leaf or a blend of greens as well and probiotics or prebiotics to boost it even more. I also add a half of an Emergen-C packet as well.
Peanut Butter is loaded with protein per tablespoon and is a great source of Niacin, Manganese. Milk contains calcium. Blueberries contain a huge amount of antioxidants, which aid in preventing memory loss among many other things. Yogurt helps with digestion and contains calcium. Mangoes are filled with vitamin A and C and healthy antioxidants like beta carotene. Whey protein contains the essential amino acids needed every day to help build muscle. Bananas are heavy on potassium, fiber and even vitamin B6. Cherries are high in fiber and vitamin C.
